PC vs ABS Luggage: Which Material Should You Choose?
Choose ABS for the lowest cost (budget and promotional programs), PC for the best impact resistance and lightest weight (mid-premium brands), and ABS+PC for the balanced middle most wholesalers pick. All three are available from our Dongguan factory at MOQ 50 pieces per color per style.
When buyers ask us for a quotation, the first decision is almost always the shell material. Here is how we explain the three mainstream options on the factory floor.
ABS: the economical workhorse
ABS is the most cost-effective hard-shell material. It is rigid, holds bright colors well, and keeps the suitcase price accessible — which is why it dominates entry-level and promotional luggage programs. The trade-off: it is more brittle than PC, so deep impacts can crack it.
Best for: budget retail programs, promotional and corporate gift orders, markets where price decides.
PC: the durable premium choice
PC (polycarbonate) is lighter and far more impact-resistant — it flexes and returns to shape instead of cracking. It costs more, but it is the material behind most mid-range and premium hard-shell lines, including expandable models.
Best for: brands positioning on durability, frequent-flyer and business ranges, private-label programs with a quality story.
ABS+PC: the balanced middle
A composite shell that blends the two: better toughness than pure ABS at a smaller premium than full PC. For many wholesalers this is the sweet spot.

Our recommendation
- Launching a price-led range? Start with ABS 3-piece sets — MOQ 50 pieces per color per style.
- Building a brand with repeat buyers? PC or ABS+PC is the safer choice for durability.
- Not sure? Quote both. We routinely quote an ABS economy set alongside a PC upgrade so buyers can compare.
